Intercultural sensitization methodology

Introduction:

Everyone is familiar with their own cultural identity, especially if compared to the one of those living in other cultures. If a culture is perceived as sensibly different from the usual, negative reactions may arise, bringing with them even more negative consequences. Hence the very long road from suspicion and distrust to cooperation, which can be covered only through mutual understanding and acceptance.

This is an extremely contemporary topic, given that the concept of culture is changing and social mobility is increasing.

Objectives

This course wants participants to:

  • Learn some methods able to provide for young people from different cultures mutual understanding, acceptance and liking
  • Help participants acquire attitudes, learn to recognize their own limitations, their borders in a tactful manner, but by clear statements, accurately perceive their own role and to increase their conflict-solving skills
  • Be able to collaborate more effectively, reduce resentment arising from diversity, understand that the problems are also challenges, which can be useful lessons

Methodology

Our courses, developed in the framework established by the Erasmus+ Programme, are crafted to include both formal and non-formal education methodologies. Starting with a theoretical approach to the theme of the course, we proceed with non-formal learning strategies in order to guarantee and stimulate an active contribution from the participants involved. In practice, we use: Presentations; Analysis of study cases; Discussions in the classroom; Role-plays; Technical visits to local private and public institutions; Conferences with local professionals to exchange good practices; Job shadowing experiences; Workshops to rethink old practices and introduce new ones.

Certifications

We will hand out:​

  • ​Certificate of attendance, which will include title of course, main training content and dates;
  • Europass Mobility certificates issued by your NA and signed by us.

Location: Budapest, Hungary

PROGRAMME:

  • Day 1 – Arrival
    • Participants will be transferred from the airport to the accommodation in Budapest.
    • Get to know each other and welcome dinner
  • Day 2 – Objectives and methodology
    • Introduction to the conceptual and methodological knowledge
    • Methods able to provide for young people from different cultures mutual understanding, acceptance and liking
  • Day 3 – The concept of culture
    • Definition of Culture
    • Discussing their own experiences
    • Study visit to a local school
  • Day 4 – Increasing social mobility
    • Conflict-solving skills
    • Discussing their own experiences
    • Cultural visit to the House of Terror/Parliament
  • Day 5 – Cooperation
    • Conflicts between cultures in the common days and schools
    • Discussing their own experiences
    • City sightseeing
  • Day 6 – Workshop
    • Technical visits to local private and / or public institutions.
    • Final evaluations
    • Delivery of Certificates
  • Day 7 – Departure
    • Departure of participants

Training fee: 490 EUR/participant. The fee includes participation fee, training materials, stationery.
The fee does not include travel, accommodation and meals.
All costs can be funded from Erasmus+ KA1 grants.
